Fujitsu Microelectronics of Japan recently launched a new mobile WiMAX chipset, Nikkei Electronics Asia reported on June 18, adding that the chip is specifically designed for use in mobile WiMAX devices, such as Smartphones and PDAs (Personal Digital Assistant). This highly integrated chipset - featuring low power consumption and small form factor - is slated for sample shipment starting in August 2008, according to the Nikkei report.

Meanwhile, Fujitsu Microelectronics also announced that it has teamed up with Fujitsu Laboratories on the development of low-power CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) technology for 32nm logic LSIs (Large Scale Integration), also according to Nikkei Electronics Asia. It is reported that the new technology will lower power consumption without compromising the operating speed. According to the same report, the new technology can lower power consumption by approximately 40% in comparison to technologies for 45nm logic LSIs and can be used in a wide range of applications, such as system LSIs for use in mobile devices.
